First you need to install vlc media player found here
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Now when install if you want to play all files streaming online and have firefox then select to install the firefox plugin during the install process.
You can put a link to any media file as well as mms and rstp stream links for live streaming tv broadcasts
Simply enter the url and click the go button! I'm just testing this now. This was available over six months ago but with vreel doing it everyone now seems into it so I figured I'd have some fun too. If you want to try it for fun use one of the download links from the divx and enter it into the box then hit go. Supernovatube download links work great but enter one as soon as you get it as there download links expire quickly. It's easy to customize the graphics but for now I'm just messing around with the code :) I never used it because it crashes the browser too often. vlc is great offline but embedded it has coding issues for online purposes that seriously need to be addressed! Ok after some more testing I won't be wasting anymore time on this. Will leave this post here for you guys that want to stream mkv, and other file formats without downloading but with all the divx links available and internet speeds what they are this only seems like a good idea for mkv HD which will take forever to stream and is useless unless you got a super fast connection.
